Seven-Eighths Time

April 21st, 2009 by Bryan

Violinist Michi Regier travels the world following all sorts of violin-related pursuits: studying folklore, ethnic music, Americana, classical music, and performing at orchestra halls, renaissance festivals, and on the street. When her composition software just wasn’t cutting it in 7/8 time, she turned to FIELD NOTES.

This commentator’s musical tastes generally reside squarely in 4/4 time but I like to shake it up with some math rock. 7/8 is pretty rare in the pop music world, unless you play Pink Floyd’s Money, at 66.6 RPM (please don’t). It looks like Michi’s got a pretty wide variety of music available, maybe I could start with the fiddlin’ and ease into the heavier stuff.
