We love hearing from folks on how they incorporate Field Notes into special occasions. Emily and Jake recently became engaged and wrote in to share their story…
The first thing Jake gave me when we started dating was a 3-Pack of Field Notes, pencil, and pen. If I wasn’t already certain he was serious about our relationship, I was now.
He has been collecting them for the last 4 years and purchasing 2 copies of every limited edition is a ritual he prides himself on. He likes to have a set for himself and a set to give to people he thinks may appreciate his obsession. When he gave me that first set of Field Notes I knew I had to do something special with it.
For the first six months of our relationship I filled one with my thoughts about our relationship and feelings towards him. Being the incredibly sentimental person he is you can imagine how emotional he was when I surprised him with them on our 6 month anniversary – along with two packs of the Shenandoah Edition.
Because of this I didn’t think anything of it when I came home early from work one day to find a sticky note on the door and a Field Notes mysteriously left on the stovetop. As I began to read I just thought he was reciprocating my thoughtful gift. That is until I turned the page and saw the ”I‘ll meet you...” That’s when it dawned on me that my Field Notes obsessed boyfriend was about to propose.
Following his very careful instructions to only turn a page at a time (after a few minutes of running up and down the house screaming) I was chauffeured by one of my best friends to the Rhododendron Gardens in Olinda, Victoria where he had told me that he loved me. When we arrived I realised that he had filled my Field Notes with the reasons he wanted to spend his life with me.
After following the map to the place where he was waiting for me with a huge bunch of my favourite flowers and a donut, I was allowed to read the rest of the book. The final page of the book was my final instruction, to be quiet as he had a question to ask me.
As he got down on one knee our friend Neiyo Sun, who is a wedding photographer, jumped out of the bushes and started to take photos that I’ll cherish forever, along with my precious Field Notes.
Congrats to the happy couple from all of us here at Field Notes! We’re glad we could be a part of your special day.
