What Size are Field Notes?
The majority of our notebooks are in a 3.5" x 5.5" size. We also offer larger notebooks like the Steno (6" × 9"), Pitch Black Notebook (4.5" × 7.5"), and Front Page (3.75" × 8"). We also occasionally offer different sizes as part of our Quarterly Limited Editions like the End Papers 2-Pack (3.5" × 7").

Are Field Notes Waterproof?
Our Expedition Edition 3-Pack is both waterproof and tear proof.

How Many Pages are in a Field Notes Notebook?
Our smaller memo books include 48 pages. Larger sized items are usually more like 80 pages in the Steno, 64 pages in the Pitch Black Notebook, and 70 pages in the Front Page reporter's notebook.

Does the Space Pen Write Underwater?
It does and the ink is waterproof! Check out some of the test videos we made using the Space Pen with our Expedition Edition notebook.

Who Created Field Notes?
Field Notes is a joint venture by the Draplin Design Company of Portland, Ore. and Coudal Partners in Chicago, Ill. The company was founded in 2007.

What Font Does Field Notes Use?
Field Notes uses only the Futura typeface family (Paul Renner, 1927) in its materials.

Orders ship out from our warehouse Monday through Friday, typically within 24 hours of ordering. Sometimes it can take a little longer if we have special offers or product launches.

In the United States we offer economy shipping (1-2 weeks) as well as 2-Day Air and Overnight options. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout. We also offer free shipping on all orders over $75.00 in the United States (free shipping does not apply to wholesale orders).

For international orders we offer Economy Shipping (2-5 weeks) and express options via FedEx. Shipping cost varies depending on the destination and will be calculated during checkout.

Please note that our international Economy shipments usually arrive in 2-5 weeks although sometimes delivery can be a little longer if the package is held up in customs. If you have not received your order after 6 weeks please contact us and we will look into it further.

Orders for wholesale customers ship via FedEx with delivery options ranging from 1 to 10 days.

What Do I Get?
Subscriptions begin with 2 packs of the edition you start with, followed by 2 packs (or equivalent) of the next 3 editions. Subscribers also receive 10% off while their subscription is active plus occasional items exclusively for subscribers. More details.

Renewal
Subscriptions do not auto-renew. We send a reminder to renew when your 4th shipment is shipping. You can also renew early from the Limited Editions page.

Shipping Address
Address changes can be made in on the Subscriptions page of your account. If you have more than one subscription you can set different shipping addresses for each one on that page.

Can I Add Extra Items?
If you purchase any extra items along with your subscription those will all ship together. Unfortunately we are not able to add any extra items to your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th shipments. If you pre-order a subscription, any extra items will ship now and your subscription will be mailed at a later date.

Unopened products may be returned for an exchange or refund within 30 days. Customer is responsible for return postage. The product must have been purchased from fieldnotesbrand.com and be accompanied by a copy of your order receipt or packing slip. Please mail exchanges or returns to:

Field Notes offers a 3 year warranty on our leather covers. This warranty covers faults in materials and workmanship and does not apply if any damage is caused by unreasonable use or neglect, normal wear and tear, or if you change your mind. Refunds are available however for unused items.

To make a warranty claim, you'll just need to have purchased your Field Notes leather cover through our website provide proof of purchase.

We use only papers sourced and manufactured in the U.S.A. (mostly from the Great Lakes region) and print locally in the Chicago area. While that obviously supports the American economy and provides jobs and allows us to build strong relationships with our suppliers, it also limits the amount of distance our paper needs to travel, reducing carbon emissions.

We always use soy-based inks and acid-free paper.

All of our body paper suppliers and some cover papers (aside from French Paper Co., see below) are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an industry group that ensures paper is manufactured responsibly.

Many of our cover papers come from French Paper Co. in Niles, Michigan. Many French papers are not FSC-compliant for various reasons, but French has an impressive environmental record: they've run on hydroelectric power generated at the plant for almost 100 years. Our standard “Kraft” covers and most other French cover papers are made from 100% recycled material.

For more specific info about any specific edition or product, you can find the papers we used in product description online, and inside the back cover of each book. Paper manufacturer's websites have detailed specifications and environmental information for any paper they manufacture. Also feel free to contact us with any questions.

Note that the Yupo Synthetic paper in our Expedition Edition (cover and body) is 100% synthetic. No trees there, and though it’s tough as nails, it’s also recyclable.

All of our products are easily recyclable (but remember to recycle Expedition with plastics!)

All our printers and paper manufacturers recycle their waste, some re-use their waste onsite as part of their manufacturing process.

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via email or other direct contact from you. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.

We will use your information to contact you regarding any issues or questions about your orders. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request, e.g. to ship an order.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email or SMS message (if selected) in the future to tell you about specials, new products or services, or changes to this privacy policy.

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information through our website your information is protected both online and offline.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment. At no point during the transaction do we obtain access to your credit card number.

We use “cookies” on this site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a site visitor’s hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. For instance, when we use a cookie to identify you, you would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site.
