We get mail. “Hi guys, I am a firefighter here in England. I use Field Notes for all sorts of stuff. Taking notes and details at incidents, reminders, plans of buildings, research for study, doodles at downtime, vehicle details & keeping scores! You name it, I have used it for that purpose.
I carry them on me at all times and they have been in my pocket on training & in the real world at incidents. This one was in my pocket at a particularly wet job where I was on the branch, getting hot & wet! I think I may need to get hold of some Expeditions” Looking good, thanks for that to Jason Wilkens.
Where Possible, Take Notes, By Hand
Pinkcast 2.2. Our pal Dan Pink explains the proof behind what you knew already. Writing stuff down the old-fashioned way helps you understand and remember it better than if you type it into a laptop or phone. Yay science!
Man, That Summer Went Fast
The production of our soon-to-be-released Fall Limited Edition was pretty complicated, involving a ton of research, testing and multiple specialist vendors. We’re on the home stretch now, so keep an eye on your inbox in the next couple weeks. As always, Year-Long Subscribers’ shipments will go out first, and there might even be a little something extra for them in the package this time. Winter goes right into production next week and it’s a new take on something people have been asking for since, like, forever. Now’s a good time to sign up for a subscription or renew a current one. Need some more data? Let’s go to the spreadsheet.
A Design Double Feature
If you’re in Chicago, or can get here, make plans to attend a double feature of new design documentaries that we are presenting at The Music Box Theater, in combination with Chicago’s Society of Typographic Arts on Tuesday, September 19th. We can’t wait to see Graphic Means: A History of Graphic Design Production and Pressing On: The Letterpress Film. The whole FN crew be there and we’ll bring along a mess of products, and maybe some rarities too.
Various & Sundry
We actually do stuff at HQ beside making notebooks. Check this post from our neighbors at Threadless about Tabletop Tuesdays. “Every two weeks we switch off between our two offices to host our escape to the fantasy seaside town of Portharbor and to roll a bunch of 20-sided dice (D20s) for our decisions...” Nerds.
Urban Sketcher Extraordinaire, Tina Koyama, organized a group visit to HQ recently that was Fueled By Clouds and Coffee. It was great meeting everyone. Wanna come by? We’re open weekdays from 9-5 at 401 North Racine in Chicago. Drop us a note ahead of time or just ring the bell. Bring money!
ICYMI: Kits!
If you’re looking to save a little cash or to send a pretty-much-perfect gift, we’re offering pre-assembled kits that are shipping right now.
