Creative in Residence at The Commons
April 26, 2022 by HQ
Here’s a summary of our first Creator in Residence feature at The Commons on Instagram. We’ll be periodically inviting creatives, artists, writers, and generally exceptional people to take over the feed to share their work, tell their stories, and show us how Field Notes occupy a place in what they do.
Meet Ramona MacLean - a freelance Illustrator who sees her world through the lens of fantasy and magic. Field Notes gives her the perfect space to kickstart her creativity by drawing mini comics, journaling about her day, and planning projects. In her Creator in Residence collection, she shared some of her work, art, thoughts, and reflections on the importance of positivity in art and life. Here’s an excerpt:
“Recently I’ve offered Workshops on different topics: I teach people how to turn themselves into a comic character, nature journaling, visual notetaking, and my personal favourite - keeping an Everything Book! Field Notes serve as my ‘Everything Books’ where I put everything on paper to kick-starting my creativity. I feel so passionate about this subject that I’m starting to write a book about it.”
“I completed the Capilano University 2D animation program and was hired to work at Bardel entertainment as a storyboard artist. I worked on 3 Dreamwork TV shows. Puss in Boots, King Julien and Rescue Riders. This experience was great for focusing on acting and characters. It pushed me to think of story and staging in a new way and I am very grateful for that training in my life.
I also created an original game called Pocket Quest - it is a small paper game you can print out and carry with you. Use the printable info booklet to look up what monsters to fight and items to buy. Try and make it to the end with the help of some adorable allies and magical items!”
“I started using Field Notes on April 3rd 2021. I believe I saw some posts on Pinterest and got curious. There were different colours, and a subscription, and it all sounded so exciting! I did a deep dive and realized there was a large community of fans out there. I went out and bought my first 3-Pack. The Vignette. I don’t know how to explain it, but there seemed to be a magic about those notebooks, I fell in love.”
