Start a SubscriptionGrass Stain Green, our 3rd Quarterly Edition, features a letterpress-printed super-heavy 100# French Pop-Tone cover, with a matching light green graph on the inside pages.
The covers are unlike our usual offset-printed covers. Letterpress printing creates an impression in the paper. This debossed effect with a tinted spot varnish gives our Field Notes artwork a subtle and earthy texture.
Proudly printed by the good people of Service Graphics, Inc., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. and the relief printing masters of Flywheel Letterpress, Freeport, Ill.
Cover: French Pop-Tone 100#C "Gumdrop Green," with just about the meanest letterpress "blind hit" on the cover, as well as a thick, brute force, 1-Color application of "Green Mind" green ink everywhere else.
Innards: Boise Offset Smooth 50#T "White," with a leafy, soy-based 1-Color application of "Photosynthesizing Chlorophyll" light green ink.
Cover printed on a Heidelberg SP 102 28" × 40" 6-color printing press.
Innards printed on a Didde 17½" × 22" 5-color printing press.
Binding by a McCain 8-pockeet saddle stitcher, with appreciation to Samuel Slocum, George W. McGill and William J. Brown – the "Founding Fathers of the Staple."
Corners precisely rounded to ⅜" (9.5mm) by a CRC round-corner machine.
Graph grid: 3/16" × 3/16" (4.7mm × 4.7mm).
Memo book dimensions are 3½" × 5½" (89mm × 140mm).
FIELD NOTES uses only the Futura typeface family (Paul Renner, 1927), in collaboration with Monotype.
All FIELD NOTES memo books are printed and manufactured in the U.S.A.
