The initial shipment for all subscriptions that start or renew with one of our four 2020 Limited Editions are packed in this box, designed by Chicago artist, and occasional Field Notes co-conspirator (Squirrels with flashlights!) Jay Ryan, proprietor of The Bird Machine.
We had the box custom made to fit our Memo Books perfectly. It takes up less space and uses less material than our previous model, and it makes for a handsome little storage container too.
We’d like to say the we provided Jay with an extensive brief on the project, with detailed specifications and our expectations and timeline for the project, but when he wrote back to say he’d love to design this year’s box and mentioned that he was thinking of a “Whole bunch of chairs. A mess of chairs.” We responded, “Yes please.”
