Field Notes in Action

Eighty Years, Field Notes, and a Couple Cigarettes

January 16, 2020 by Jim

Ellesmere

Arctic wildlife photographer Morten Hilmer mounted an expedition to Ellesmere Island, within the Arctic Archipelago, in Canada’s Qikiqtaaluk Region, to chase his “dream about getting a glimpse and maybe even photograph the white Arctic wolf.”

To date, he has posted two episodes that recount the amazing journey: Extreme Temperatures and Chasing the White Ghost. Check them out, the story is fascinating and his enthusiasm, infectious.

Along the way the team uncovered a note, left a long time ago, in an old tin, and they decided to replace it with a note of their own. Here’s the section of the film that describes finding the letter from the past and leaving one for the future.

We love to see our Field Notes in the field, and in this case, an “Expedition” Edition on an expedition. Thanks to Morton and his team, and also to Jason L. for pointing this out to us.
