Good Things Come in Threes

January 7, 2022 by HQ

Rule of three

The turn of the year always presents an opportunity to refocus and take a breath. As 2022 begins, we turned to our pal and productivity expert Rich Webster to see how he recommends putting our latest Quarterly Edition to use. Rich, take it away!

When I cracked open one of my new “Ignition” Edition 26-Week Date Books, I knew exactly what to do with it. I submit it’s the perfect size to try out The Rule of Three.

If you’re like me, the to-do list in your brain is miles long. But how do we prioritize what to actually do? One way I focus and prioritize is through using a simple system: The Rule of Three. Here’s how it works:

The Rule of Three

Do this before you start your day.

Decide which THREE things you’d like to accomplish by the end of the day.

  • Write them down.
  • Do them. Don’t do anything else instead.
  • Once they are done, the day is a win.

Three Helpful Notes

Why three? It’s big enough to fit the main things you want to get done, but small enough to make you think hard about what’s important.

When you finish your three things for the day, you can always grab more. Or (gasp!) take a deserved break until tomorrow.

Try using The Rule of Three on a weekly basis too, to decide the three most important goals for your week.

If you’re more of a visual learner, here is The Rule Of Three in action.

Thanks Rich! Rich Webster posts daily on Instagram about productivity and how to work less, and publishes an amazing weekly newsletter, Work Less Wednesday. Give him a follow. And while you’re at it, check out the “Ignition Edition,” which, like most of our releases, happens to come in a pack of three!
