LET’S GET LOST…
Over the years, Field Notes creator Aaron Draplin of the Draplin Design Co (DDC) has put together increasingly weird and ambitious “Rogue” Editions. As 2026 winds down, he’s left the planet entirely.
There is randomness in the universe and these 3-Packs are no exception. What style, color, and madness you receive is determined completely by fate. No requests please.
From his attic in Portland, he writes:
MY MIND HAS BEEN ELSEWHERE: And I documented those meanderings into a new project that got weird…and quick…welcome to DDC OTHER WORLDS!
And out of it came this little cosmic quip: “IF WE ARE POSSIBLE…SO IS EVERYTHING ELSE.” We dream, speculate and hope there’s life out there somewhere, right? Of course. And yet when you study galactic distances and the physics (5th grade level, of course) of just how far we are from EVERYTHING, there’s this fleeting quality that for as much as we reach for the stars, we should be equally pondering the magical, mystical improbability of humans, and the extraordinary animals we share the planet with.
My mind floated to weird places in this project. From exotic worlds with exotic landscapes to tarantulas to cellular psychedelia to geometric tesseracts…and when I got back home it reminded me to appreciate the beauty around us here on Mother Earth.
Let’s get lost in Other Worlds! Hell, I might not come back!
Aaron sent artwork for eighteen way-out-there memo books to the Chicago HQ and asked us to double-down on the weirdness. We lurked around the printers, the foil-stampers, and the bindery, creating absolute havoc: switching papers, colors, foils, staples, and even directions throughout the run. Aaron listed the features as such:

SPECIFICATIONS:
- 01.
Proudly printed by the deep thinkers of The Graphic Arts Studio, LLC, Barrington, Ill.
- 02.
Cover: Domtar Cougar 80#C “Woolgathering White” mixed with a couple cartons of Neenah Astrobrights 80#C, with a thick, brute force, 4-color offset application of “CMYK Process” soy-based Superior ink, plus some random foil slams. *Note: That's what it says on the books, but it's not true. A tornado destroyed Neenah's national warehouse a week before press, so Astrobrights were unavailable. We used French Construction "Limeade" instead, and a very small stack of unidentified red stock.
- 03.
Innards: Finch Paper Opaque Smooth 60#T “Bright White,” with a fine, 1-color application of “Whatever We Had Sitting Around” soy-based Superior ink.
- 04.
Cover and innards printed on a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102S six-color printing press.
- 05.
Bound with a Muller Martini 6-pocket saddle stitcher with cover feeder/scorer, with appreciation to Samuel Slocum, George W. McGill, and William J. Brown, the “Founding Fathers of the Staple.”
- 06.
Corners precisely rounded to a 3/8" (9.5mm/9,525,000nm) radius with a Challenge DCM double round-corner machine.
- 07.
Memo book: 3–1/2"× 5–1/2" (89mm × 140mm/8.89e+7nm × 1.397e+8nm).
- 08.
FIELD NOTES uses only the Futura typeface family (Paul Renner, 1927), in collaboration with Monotype.
- 09.
All FIELD NOTES memo books are printed and manufactured in the U.S.A, on Planet Earth, in the Solar System, somewhere in a quiet, unassuming corner of the the Milky Way galaxy.
