Once again, we’re the title sponsor of The Morning News Tournament of Books that tips off on Wednesday, March 7th. We can’t wait for the 14th edition of this literary cage-match. Check out this year’s brackets and if you’re not familiar with the ToB, you’ll want to read this Brief History of the Tournament of Books, by Angela Chen. “You can’t kill the Rooster.”
You Know, For Kids
We’ve made a small batch of special manila-kraft Memo Books, with the ToB mascot on the cover and a checklist of the tournament books on the inside.
Buy one of these and help us raise money for 826 National, a seven-chapter network that provides under-resourced students, ages 6-18 with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills. In 2017, we raised over $8600 for 826. Together let’s do a lot better this year!
Oh, The Places You Will Go
Field Notes Brand products can be found in thousands of shops around the world. We’re constantly inspired by the creativity and passion of our retail partners. Here are just a few interesting folks that have joined our family recently.
Writer is a smart, highly-focused shop in Penang, Malaysia. The Oregon Department of Forestry is stocking Field Notes at the Tillamook Forest Center, just an hour from PDX. Tommy has a love for all things on two wheels, coffee, and clothing. Stop in to say hello to him at Butterscotch Motor & Bean in Long Beach California. The shop at the fantastic UMMA, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, is now carrying Field Notes. (Go Blue!) Fernweh aim is “to provoke a love for wild and beautiful places” and is located at the foot of the Wasatch mountains in Midway, Utah. We’re proud to be stocked at the tiny but mighty Rugg Road in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. If you find yourself in Malé in the Maldives, you can now find Field Notes at Doodle Craft & Stationery. Also, thanks for carrying us to the Agrarian Culture Center and Bookstore of The Berry Center, which aims to “address what it will take to revive farm economies, good land use, and vitality for rural America.” Right on.
Hot Air
Thanks a million to Dan Cederholm and the crew at Dribbble for inviting me to be a guest on the Overtime podcast to talk about Field Notes and a bunch of other stuff. It was a blast. I may have dropped some 411 on our Spring release, or maybe not...
The Year Ahead
In the next few weeks, we’ll be ready to announce and ship the Spring limited edition. It’s our 38th Quarterly Release, and the making of it has been a bit complicated because we have pushed a printing technique right up to its limits. When you see it, we’re sure you’ll agree it was worth the trouble. We’re planning on having a release party at HQ in Chicago, right after the launch. Watch for details here and on our social feeds: Twitter, Instagram, FB. Or better yet, sign up for The List, for the latest news as well as periodic affirmation of your excellent taste in stationery products.
We’re already at work on our Summer and Fall limited editions. They both require quite a bit of research and testing. All in all, right now would be an excellent time to start a year-long subscription. We also have a couple special collaborative projects and events in the works for later in the year, and can’t wait to share those with you too.
