As some of you may have discovered already, we’ve made a decision to stop reprinting our 52 “County Fair” 3-Packs, one for every American State, plus the future states of Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
We’ve offered “County Fair” since we first produced them as our 7th Quarterly Edition, way back in the Summer of 2010. Sales of these 3-Packs have dwindled over the years, and unfortunately, it just doesn’t make sense for us to continue replenishing the line.
The original launch of “County Fair” was a major investment of time, effort, and money for us. In retrospect, it really set the tone for how ambitious we could be with our Quarterlies, and how important year-long subscriptions would become to the success of Field Notes as an enterprise. For these reasons, this decision was difficult, and one we have delayed for years.
But sometimes you just have to move on. Many thanks to all the folks and stores who have purchased and carried “County Fair.” At the moment, twelve states are sold out. So if you’d like to stock up, now is the time.
“County Fair” was, at least partially, the subject our first specific product film too. Since then, we’ve made a film for just about every Quarterly Release. This one was shot at The Monona County Fairgrounds, in Onawa, Iowa, near the Nebraska border, on a hot weekend in July. Check it out. We’re pretty sure that the fair, like thousands of others across America, is pretty much the same today as it was back then. In case you’re in the area this year, the Monona Fair runs July 12-17.
By the way, our booth in 2010 cost us $30, and we sold $160 worth of Field Notes over the weekend. Gas, funnel cakes and cotton candy came out of the profits.
