Shockingly Cold

April 27th, 2016 by Jim Coudal

Brrrr

Our memo books have been to a lot of places, including some very cold ones, like when our Expedition Edition went to the South Pole with Ben Saunders. Just yesterday, we saw that we’re featured in a film narrated by Lisa Kelley, lead diver on Linblad Expeditions underwater arctic adventures. Thanks to Great Big Story for that.

Showdown

April 4th, 2016 by Jim Coudal

“When it comes to pocket-sized notebooks, two companies stand above the rest: Moleskine and Field Notes.” Pocket Paper Notebook Showdown, by Thorin Klosowski. We come out pretty well in this Lifehacker one-on-one review, but as far as we’re concerned, when the choice comes down to a huge, multi-national, publicly-traded, manufactured-in-China, megabrand, and us (10 people), we’ll definitely call that a win.

With Opening Day right around the corner, it seems a good time to remind fathers, sons, wives and daughters about Kevin Guilfoile’s splendid memoir about his Dad, Roberto Clemente, and a mysterious bat. A Drive into the Gap, from Field Notes Books is a short, delightful, touching story that deserves a place on any ball fan’s shelf. Check out an excerpt and a short film, and then pick up a copy or two.

Hello from the Jordan Valley

Ben farms land close to the Sea of Galilee and wrote in to share how he uses FIELD NOTES.

I am in charge of the irrigation and fertilization of our dates, avocado, and almonds plantation, 1,300 acres in total. I work alone. Sometimes I use workers for bigger projects but I love my daytime loneliness. It’s just me and my John Deere Gator utility vehicle.

Tournament of Books 2016

February 24th, 2016 by Jim Coudal

FN28_Chicago_3pk_M

We’re psyched to be the title sponsor of the 12th edition of The Morning News Tournament of Books that tips off in March. We’re making our way through the books and hope you are too.

From TMN: “In case you’re new to all this, the ToB is an annual springtime event here at The Morning News, where a group of the best works of fiction from last year enter a March Madness-style battle royale. In March, these novels will be seeded and paired off in an NCAA Tournament-like bracket. For each pairing, one of our esteemed judges will read both novels and advance one, with a transparent explanation of how they made their decision.”

This year we’re doing something a bit different. Once again, we’ve made a small batch of special red Memo Books, with the ToB mascot on the cover. Buy one of these for $2 and we’ll take your $2 and match it with $2 of our own, and make a donation of $4 to 826 National, a seven-chapter network that provides under-resourced students, ages 6-18 with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills.

The 2016 Tournament of Books Special Edition is sold out. Thanks to everyone who bought one.
